Benzo [b] [l, 7] naphthyridine and benzo [b] [l, 5] naphthyridine are isomers each other. The latter is the mother nucleus of the antimalarial pyronaridine (1). The authors used the former as the mother nucleus to synthesize seven Mannich base derivatives (2_ (1-7)) which are similar to pyronaphthyridine and have single or double substituents. P. berghei tests of sporozoite-infected murine Plasmodium yoelii or blood transgenics showed that their effect was below 1.
