自国家实施西部大开发战略和天保工程以来,祁连山森林资源得到了较好的保护,保护区林业产业有了较快发展,全区初步形成了以种植、养殖、开矿和旅游为龙头的林业产业发展体系。但由于资源状况、思想认识、工作力度等各种因素,各保护站产业发展极不平衡,现有的林业产业中,森林生态旅游业持续升温,林木种苗基地得到快速发展,矿产开采业初见成效,特色种植、养殖业全面发展。但从总体讲,各类林业产业都没形成规模效益,规模小、技术力量薄弱、资金缺乏是普遍存在的问题。为了更好地利用资源优势,搞好产业开发,加强保护区自身的造血功能,应从以下几个方面着手:
