教材是学校教学过程的基本媒体,教材的质量直接影响教学的质量。在电大的教学过程中,教师与学生互不见面,缺乏普通大学那种面对面的信息交流和及时的信息反馈。教学主要是通过印刷教材及其它教学媒体来进行。因此,电大教材与普通大学教材相比显得更为重要。在电大各种教材中,尤其重要的是印刷教材,因为印刷教材系统地反映了教学大纲的要求,既是学生自学的主要依据,也是制作各种视听教材及其它媒体教材的基础。印刷教材的质量在很大程度上决定了其它媒体教材的乃至电大教学的质量。因此,要提高电大教学质量。首先应当提高电大印刷教材的质量。
