China, U.K. Representatives Discuss Protection and Use of the Great Wall and Hadrian’s Wall
Representatives from cultural heritage authorities and universities in China and the U.K. held a virtual talk on the protection, research, and use of the Great Wall of China and Hadrian’s Wall of the U.K.
The online meeting, held on October 5 before the two-month-long 2020 Great Wall cultural festival closed, was sponsored by the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) and the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage (BMACH).
At the meeting, experts and scholars from the BUCEA, Beijing Forestry University, Tianjin University, Newcastle University, and the charity English Heritage discussed a range of topics that included conducting aerial surveys and archaeological research of Hadrian’s Wall, and demonstrating the cultural value of the Great Wall while building the Great Wall national cultural park.
Chen Mingjie, head of the BMACH, said that the meeting will promote exchanges and cooperation between the two walls and help upgrade the protection work of the two countries and the rest of the world.
The meeting was the third of its kind after the first and second took place in Newcastle, U.K. in 2018, and the resort of the Jinshanling Great Wall, north China’s Hebei Province, in 2019.
