In his book The Man From Mars, Mary Attwood describes the incompatibility of foreign nationalities with Canadian society and explores the inner world of a Canadian woman whose appearance is unattractive. In her Critique Collection, Survival: A Canadian Guide to the Thematic Topics (1972), the author states: A foreign national, “even though he has renounced his ethnic origin, there is no ready-made new ’Canadian character’ : He is confronted with a vague, blank, and out-of-the-box ideology ....
