宣纸、墨、毛笔、水,是简单的工具、物质,也是一种经历了数千年的传统文明的沉淀,无论画家怎样使用这些物质材料,都在不同程度上增加了这个传统的内容。作为大陆实验水墨的领路人之一的张羽,想跳离出传统,他觉得古人的路已走到尽头,他要走不一样的路,看不一样的风景。从当代艺术领域出发,从水墨走向跨媒介,他走在最前面。他的作品已经不同于所谓的水墨画,而属于一种综合的艺术形态,融合了行为、绘画、雕塑、影像、装置、建筑、空间等元素。区别于中西方艺术史中的方法,他一直在寻找属于自己的表达方式。就像诗人弗罗西斯在《林中路》中写道:“一片树林里分出两条路——而我选择了人迹更少的一条,从此决定了我一生的道路。”

His work is different from the so-called ink painting, but belongs to a comprehensive art form that integrates the elements of behavior, painting, sculpture, video, installation, architecture and space. Different from the method of Chinese and Western art history, he has been looking for his own way of expression. Just as the poet Florus wrote in Lin Zhonglu: “There are two separate ways in a woodland - and I chose one with fewer human tracks, and thus decided the path of my life.” "
