田汉在走上革命道路之前,受浪漫主义、唯美主义等西方各种思潮影响,抱有艺术改造中国之幻想,走过一段弯路。为此,当田汉于30年代加入中国左翼作家阵营时,不少人甚至包括田汉的一些好友,都曾对此带有几分不信任。有人认为“田汉始终是一个感伤的浪漫人物,他的左倾,也仍然是一种感情作用”,“无非是满足他那种浪漫的冲动而已!”(愈之《田汉印象记》)甚至有的同志直言,田汉“顶好还去做一个感伤的诗人,左倾的作品没有他的份”(《宗白华印象记》)。这些看法由于对田汉缺乏全面而真正的了解,失之于片面和偏颇。田汉不久即用实际行动证明自身坚定的革命选择,于
