公元二至三世纪,诡辩术在罗马帝国出现了繁盛的局面。哈德良治下,元首与诡辩家相交甚密,诡辩家尽享慷慨施与和宽厚仁慈。这种状况的出现与元首本人对希腊文化的喜好休戚相关,但背后却潜藏着更深刻的政治意图。哈德良期望借由与诡辩家的交往,通过对他们的恩赐,建立社会大众对元首的文化认同感,充实其统治的政治基础,于民众心中树立元首的正面形象。
In the second to third centuries ad sophistry appeared in the Roman Empire prosperous situation. Under Hadrian’s rule, the heads and sophists met very closely, and the sophists gave generous gifts and generous kindness. The appearance of this situation is closely related to the preference of the head of state for the Greek culture, but behind it is a deeper political intention. Hadrian expected to establish a positive image of heads of state in the minds of the people through his contacts with sophists, their gifts, the establishment of a cultural identity of the general public to the heads of state and the enrichment of the political foundation of his government.
