1996年7月1日,泸州市行政区划进行了调整,新建了江阳区。江阳区以泸州市城区为中心,占地面积657平方公里;辖4街8镇6乡,总人口57万;其中农业人口38万,耕地面积29万亩,粮食总产量17万吨,工农业总产值4亿多,财政收入5700万元。其基本特点,可用“中心城区、农业大区、工业小区、财力弱区”十六个字来概括。我区农业资源丰富,工业后劲足,商贸潜力大,交通基础好,发展领域宽。江阳区的发展既有不利因素,也有很多有利条件;既有机遇,更有挑战。
