五味子别名北五味子,为木兰科多年生落叶藤本药用植物.五味子在辽宁省分布广、产量大、质量好,仅清原县果实蕴藏量就达1700吨,所以素有“辽五味”之称.多生长在条木林中,山谷、溪流两岸的乔木林和灌木丛中也到处可见.五味子藤长6—8米,花期5—7月,果期8—9月.浆果球形,成熟时呈红色.五味子果实含挥发油,油的主要成分是枸橼醛、五味子素和五味子醇.五味子有兴奋和强化作用,能调节血压和糖代谢,敛肺、滋肾、生津、收汗、涩精.近年来,五味子及其制剂畅销国内外,经济效益显著.
