Chemical carcinogenesis is initiated by the combination of the final carcinogen or its electrophilic metabolite with cellular DNA. Analysis of various carcinogen-DNA adducts shows that the binding of chemical carcinogens to DNA is highly specific. However, since eukaryotic DNA and chromatin proteins are intricately combined together and constitute transcriptionally active and non-transcriptionally active chromatin, the following questions arise: Does the binding of chemical carcinogens to chromatin also manifest itself?
