When predicting the future of satellite communications, the need for the near future and the long term need to be clarified. In the near term, a sound assumption is that more and more medium-sized and best-performing dedicated satellites will be put into operation to meet immediate urgent communications needs. However, in the long run, if the number of satellites grows unchecked and uncoordinated, it is clear that the available orbital position and spectrum resources will be exhausted soon. Therefore, the use of high-capacity large-scale communication platforms has received special attention. Similarly, international coordination of orbit and spectrum allocation, the development of higher-frequency radio bands and the introduction of spectrum-saving modulation and multiple access technologies should also be given special attention.
