由国家技术监督局颁布的《中华人民共和国国家标准·出版物上数字用法的规定》(GB/T15835—1995),对出版物上涉及数字(表示时间、长度、质量、面积、容积等量值和数字代码)时使用汉字和阿拉伯数字的情况作了规范。《规定》指出,这个国家标准“适用于各级新闻报刊、普及性读物和专业性社会人文科学出版物”,“自然科学和工程技术出版物亦应使用本标准,并可制定专业性细则”。由此可见,它除了“不适用于文学书刊和重排古籍”之外,是各种书面形式的数字用法的规范和标准。根据这一“标准”规定,凡是能用阿拉伯数字的地方尽量使用阿拉伯数字;无论使用阿拉伯数字还是使用汉字数字,必须保持全篇体例上的统一。然而,目前的书报刊,时这一原则都遵守得不够,不规范现象或错误屡见不鲜。例如:
