In Spain, 17 million people wear glasses, which accounts for 43% of the country’s population. The annual expenditure for the purchase of eyeglass products is about 9.3 billion Hong Kong dollars. The local market for frames and lenses is quite large. Most of the consumption of eyeglasses in Spain is spent on reading glasses (HK$3.75 billion) and frames (HK$2.6 billion). About 66% of these two types of products are imported, of which about one third come from Asian countries. Every year, the country exports a total of 900,000 pairs of reading glasses to Spain. In sunny Spain, the demand for sunglasses is very large. A total of 8 million pairs of glasses are imported annually, accounting for 80% of the market, with a total value of 277 million.
