Experimental and clinical studies have found that some metabolic and cellular disorders caused by different stimuli can be changed to favorable ones by the use of potassium D-L-aspartate and magnesium salts. Mechanisms of this beneficial effect include cell electrolyte balance, enzyme activity and the restoration of oxidative metabolism. Disorders in electrolyte balance and metabolic processes are part of the complex disturbances of the organism that are affected by irradiation and have an impact on the recovery process of the cell renewal population. Regulating potassium metabolism may have a beneficial effect on radiation damage. Pre and post irradiation, potassium-deficient foods reduce the radiation resistance in rats, whereas radiation-induced increases in potassium-rich foods.
