1993年10月8日,中国一个普通的文化人——顾城,在他居留的新西兰一个荒芜的小岛上自杀身亡;自殁之前,极其凶残地用斧头将他的妻子谢烨砍死。不论从哪个角度衡量,这都是一幕悲剧,一幕令人惊愕、发人深思的悲剧;又由于顾城的父亲是大名鼎鼎的诗人顾工,顾城本人是一位在国内曾小有名气的朦胧诗人,而凶杀和自殁又发生在许多人梦寐以求、趋之若鹜的发达国家,总之,由于多方面的原因,造成在相当长的一段时问里,顾城之死成了国内文化界注目和议论的一个焦点。然而,非常遗憾,从北京到上海、广州等地,在报刊发表的相当数量的文章里,对顾城行凶杀人的罪恶竞表现出相当宽容的态度,有的甚至竭尽美化之能事;而且,发表这些文章的报刊,有的在国内甚至国外还有相当高的知名度,一向被人们推崇备
