布宜诺斯艾利斯市自1908年后没有建过一座音乐厅,但五十多年来,音乐事业却蓬勃发展,观众增加,演出增多。从数字看,布宜诺斯艾利斯已跻身于世界上音乐活动最发达的城市之一。因此,会堂建设的头一项任务,就是满足音乐演出的需要。会堂座落在城市一片大的绿地上。它有三个不同大小的观众厅,上面覆盖着拱顶。其余部分则为平项,有不同尺寸的柱网。整个建筑物共计50000平方米,不仅规模大,形象也很特别,建成后将成为城市的标志,便于识别,富有特色,而且构成一个公共空间,丰富现有的建筑环境。
