Recent studies have shown that the diterpenoids isolated from the plants of the Euphorbiaceae show strong vasorelaxation activity. The authors studied the effects of four components of E.canarie-nsis in this family on isolated rabbit basilar and carotid arteries. The plant gum 90 g was dissolved in 700 mL hot methanol, cooled to room temperature and filtered to remove the white triterpenoid precipitate. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness in vacuo to give a white oil which was dissolved in a small amount of methanol and applied on a silica gel column.
