He was born in 1921 as a pastor family in Canovgen, near Bern. He studied philosophy and theology in Berne and Zurich. He also worked in sketches, printmaking and comic books. Duren Martti became a dramatist in 1940, a professional writer in 1947, a Schiller’s Prize in 1959 and a Bern City Literature Award ten years later.
