The experimental results show that insulin absorption from the small intestine relies on surfactant and that a protease inhibitor is needed. The author produced a rat ileum specimen, which was used to determine the total amount of insulin absorbed. After identifying the ileal nimbus of this specimen, a section of ileum was clamped at both ends to allow different amounts of drug to enter the gut lumen, and the main mesenteric vein was cannulated to continuously collect 30 to 40 minutes of venous blood.
