MicroRNAs are a class of small RNA molecules close to 22 nucleotides that have been shown to be up-regulated or down-regulated in specific cell types as well as disease occurrence. Studies have shown that these small RNA molecules are one of the most important gene regulatory monitoring switches in the human genome. This article reviews MicroRNA structures, mechanisms of action, MicroRNA detection techniques, and human tumor relationships. The miR-NAs can be detected by some specific methods, such as gene chips, magnetic bead chips, real-time quantitative PCR, and the like.
