Formaldehyde (FA),a well-known environmental pollutant,is a widely used chemical compound in people’s life.Profound studies have shown that FA has toxic effects on central nervous system [1].However,the mechanisms underlying FA-induced neurotoxicity have not been fully investigated.It is also essential to find a way to prevent and slow down the progression of FA-caused neurotoxicity.Cellular senescence,a programmed cell response leading to a permanent cell cycle arrest,can be induced by various cellular stresses such as oncogene activation,irradiation,DNA damage and oxidative stress [2].A recent study has suggested that senescent cells in brain may contribute to the neurodegenerative changes [3].Interestingly,accumulated FA has been reported in brains of aging individuals and contributes to the age-related neurodegenerative symptoms [4].Therefore,it was hypothesized that FA can accelerate cellular senescence and which in t may contribute to FA-elicited neurotoxicity.
