It is known that yellow K_6H [Ag (IO_6) _2] .10H_2O is obtained by oxidizing Ag_2O with K_2S_2O_8 in an alkaline medium in the presence of KIO_4. Our study shows that a large amount of KIO_4 can also oxidize silver (I) to the trivalent silver salt in the absence of K_2S_2O_8 in the 0.1-0.4 M alkali medium. However, in a large amount of chloride medium, only K_ (2) __ Precipitate, but no yellow complex salt formation. In the presence of oxidant K_2S_2O_8, Ag_2O or AgCl_2 ~ can be oxidized to trivalent silver salt even if the KIO_4 concentration is lower than that of silver (I).
