Based on the study of the summer of 2011 in London, this article explores the influence of Weibo communication in emergencies. In August 2011, in five days, some major cities in England, such as London, experienced massive public disorder and violence and even some were killed. We collected and analyzed Weibo from the official accounts held by 28 local government agencies in London. These departments use Weibo for a variety of purposes, such as preventing the spread of rumors, providing official information, advancing legal action against criminals and organizing riot community participation. This study shows the significant role played by the real-time and interactivity elements of Weibo in the response and follow-up of emergencies.
