Blake Biography William Blake is an extraordinary man in an ordinary family. His father, James Black, a sock business, lives with his wife, Catherine, at 28 Golden Street Broadway, Soho, London. Born on November 28, 1757, William Black was the fourth son and the second of a daughter. Robert, a little brother, was nine years younger than him, and he was particularly intimate. Blake had a long history of talent in painting, so when he was ten, he was taken to a painting school in Strand, run by Henry Pars. Five years later he followed apprentice James Basser as an apprentice and has since spent seven years on Queen Street in Lincoln Square.
