由于生产的发展,运输量不断增加,又加上南钢、南电运输量的增长,南化老线运输能力已接近饱和,承担三厂运输的梅桂营车站堵塞严重,难以完成逐年增加的运输任务。利用老线改建不能完全解决问题。新建专用线和工厂站,在扬子专用线葛塘站出岔,沿马汊河南下与去大货场线路相接,不受其它企业影响,能较彻底地解决南化铁路运输问题。
