Born in 1869 in Heshan County, Guangdong, Tifu Li made his living in Canada when he was 16 years old in 1885. After joining the Arlington Fine Arts School in 1887 and studying fine arts for nine years, he transferred to the New York Institute of Art in the United States and was the chief and an associate professor of the New York Art Students Union. During this period, he won several titles in the drawing competition and was able to follow the names Painter Chase and Sargent studied art for more than a decade.
