GC-MS Analysis of the Essential Oils from Fresh and Dry Leaves of Litsea glutinosa (Lour.) C. B. Rob

[Objective] To research the chemical constituents of essential oils from fresh and dry products of Litsea glutinosa (Lour.) C. B. Rob. [Method] The essential oils in L. glutinosa were obtained by using steam distillation, and identified by GC-MS. [Result] A total of 33 compounds were identified from the oils of fresh leaves, accounting for 91.01% of the total oils. Among them, the main components were β-caryophyllene(22.83%), β-ocimene(7.19%), phytol(6.90%), β-pinene(6.79%), α-pinene(5.97%), caryophyllene oxide(5.95%) and so on. A total of 42 compounds were identified from the essential oils of dry leaves, representing 93.89% of the total oils. They were mainly the β-caryophyllene (23.22%), β-ocimene (7.78%), bicyclogermacrene (7.24%), α-caryophyllene (5.89%), α-pinene(5.42%) and so on. Chemical composition analysis of the essential oils showed that there were only 30 common compounds in two kinds of essential oils. [Conclusion] This method was accurate and reliable. This research provided scientific basis for the establishment of quality standard, as well as the further development and utilization of L. glutinosa.
