中国社会科学院语言研究所词典编辑室是我国较早建立的从事辞书编纂工作的专门机构,成立于1956年,当时的中心任务是编辑《现代汉语词典》。 1956年2月,国务院发布关于推广普通话的指示,并责成中国科学院语言研究所(1977年后为中国社会科学院语言研究所)编好以确定现代汉语词汇规范为目的的中型现代汉语词典。为完成这一任务,当年由语言研究所部分人员和原新华辞书社、中国大辞典编纂处共40人组成了语言研究所词典编辑室,由当时的语言研究所副所长吕叔湘先生兼任主任并任《现代汉语词典》主编。1961年丁声树先生接任主住和主编工作。《现代汉语词典》始编于1958年,完稿于
