孔子对他的弟子提出的修养原则之一就是「有恒」论,这和「君子求诸己」是一脉相通的。孔子说:「善人,吾不得而见之矣,得见有恒者斯可矣。亡而为有,虚而为盈,约而为泰,难乎有恒矣。」(《论语·述而》)孔子感叹自己见不到圣人、善人这样第一等的人才,但是还想见到次一等的人才——有恒心求进步的人。虽然他们赶不上圣人、善人,但能够坚持如一而不中途而废;那种把没有说成有、把虚说成实、把少说成多的都是与「恒」相反的,真正做到持之以恒实在太难了。
