In order to achieve affordable endurance, the U.S. Navy has actively adopted standardized methods to reduce various life-time costs, including design, construction, use and decommissioning, in the “Virginia” class submarine project. By actively improving component standardization and process standardization, the “Virginia” submarine project finally achieved a complete success. Standardization also minimized the overall logistics of the project and reduced the inventory of spare parts.
