我团位于南疆麦盖提县东北、塔克拉玛干大沙漠西南缘,极端干旱少雨,光热充足,无霜期较长,宜种长绒棉.近年全团长绒棉已达万亩百斤以上单产水平,但因春季气温低且不稳定,秋季降温快,导致有效结铃期短,单产较难再提高.1981年,我们在10亩地上进行盖膜栽培试验,结果盖膜栽培比常规栽培亩增产皮棉33.3—71斤,增产率21.7—46%.1982年,我们大面积推广了这一技术,在上中下肥力不等的地上种盖膜棉5,127亩(品种为新海3号),平均单产皮棉139斤,比在同等条件下6,424亩常规棉亩增产皮棉36斤,每亩净收入增加43.2元.
