Internet、Intranet、数据仓库、视频应用以及正在发展的电子商务,对存储带来巨大的市场需求。应对这种激增的数据存储需求,现有两种存储革新技术:SAN和NAS。它们利用较低的存储成本和高速网络来建造快速、高度可用的系统,用于存储和检索大量的数据。而传统的直接连接存储(DAS)由于管理性、灵活性差而且不可共享正逐步遭到淘汰。正如技术多样化使移动手机用户不知选用哪种技术一样,SAN和NAS频繁地交替使用也造成了混乱,从而降低产品应用的推广速度。为此,本文对这两种技术的共同点以及存在的差异做个简介,以便用户有目的性地加以选择。
Internet, Intranets, data warehouses, video applications, and emerging e-commerce have created huge market demands for storage. Addressing this proliferation of data storage needs, there are two storage innovations SAN and NAS. They utilize lower storage costs and high-speed networks to build fast, highly available systems for storing and retrieving large amounts of data. Traditional direct-attached storage (DAS) is being phased out because of its manageability, poor flexibility, and non-shareability. Just as technology diversification makes mobile handset users unaware of which technology to use, the frequent use of SANs and NASs creates confusion, reducing the speed with which product applications are promoted. For this reason, this article gives an introduction to the similarities and differences between the two technologies so that the user can choose them purposefully.
