1995年10月《中国实验方剂学杂志》经过近1年的筹备正式出版了,主编为时任中国中医科学院中药研究所所长的姜廷良研究员,副主编为严永清教授和黄璐琦研究员,同时聘请王永炎院士和肖培根院士为顾问,杂志社社长为蔡仲德研究员,当时编辑部只有3名编辑,他们都是科研人员,利用业余时间做义务兼职编辑。2006年及2010年分别在南宁和上海召开了第二、三届编委会,主编由姜廷良研究员连任。2014年11月于北京召开了第四届编委会,吴以岭院士当选为主编,聘请陈凯先院士、王永炎院士、李连达院士、张伯礼院士、姜廷良首席研究员为顾问,编委会由190位中医药领域权威专家组成,
