According to statistics recently published by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation, “Comparison of Steel Production by Japan, United States and Western European Community”, Japan’s continuous casting ratio was 59.5% (66.27 million tons) in 1980, 20.3% (20.6 million tons) in the United States, Community is 30.9% (43.33 million tons) (1979). Japan is 35% more advanced than the United States in continuous casting, 21% more than the European Community. In 1970, the continuous casting ratio in Japan was 3.8% (5.27 million tons) and that in the United States was 3.8% (4.56 million tons). There was not much difference at that time. However, ten years in Japan’s new continuous casting equipment
