我区地处坝上,海拨一千三百多米,属高寒地区,气候寒冷,年最低温度达零下30℃以下。天然淖(湖泊)较多,水面辽阔,约有十几万亩。水质肥沃,但盐碱度较高,经济鱼类区系组成较单纯。为了增殖水产资源,自1978年以来陆续调运螃蟹苗移殖投放几个淖试养都获成功。1979年7月从辽宁省盘山县调运螃蟹苗129斤,约900万只(每斤按7万只计算),放养在张北县张飞淖,水面约6000亩,并在冰厚60～70公分下安全越冬,至1980年8月份,
