2008年7月10日,湖北省委、省政府召开了支持民族地区加快经济社会发展恩施现场办公会议,专门研究和部署支持民族地区加快经济社会发展等工作,在省直各部门、民族地区、社会各界和全国民族工作系统引起了强烈反响。国家民委党组书记杨传堂近日在湖北省民宗委上送的关于省委省政府召开支持民族地区加快经济社会发展恩施现场办公会议专题报告上作出重要批示:“湖北省委省政府支持民族地区加快经济社会发展恩施现场办公会议规格高,规模大;重视程度高,支持力度大,社会反响好;认识上有了新提高,发展思路有了新深化,责任任务有了新明确,对口支援有了新举措。望各司局学习湖北省的做法和经验。”湖北省委、省政府历来十分重视民族工作,特别是在新世纪新阶段,省委、省政府认真贯彻落实中央民族工作会议精神,把中央关于民族工作的一系列方针政策与我省民族工作的实际紧密结合起来,出台了一系列切实加强民族工作的具体政策,采取了一系列加快少数民族和民族地区经济社会发展的措施,全省民族工作进一步法制化、社会化、科学化、人本化,民族团结进步事业开创了新局面。
