教会法作为中世纪欧洲的一种重要法律,与罗马法、日耳曼法一同构成了欧洲封建时期的三大法律支柱。它以《圣经》为主要法源,其产生和发展始终与基督教的兴衰紧密相连,本质上是一种神权法。同时在其发展过程中又与各种世俗法相互渗透,并随着教会势力的日益壮大而演化为一种超越国界和民族的带有综合性与普遍性的法律体系,表现出世俗封建性与体系完备性的特征。
