航天服是航天员升空与返回时为防止事故而穿着的服装,例如在升空发生事故,航天员即使被抛到真空的宇宙中,航天服中氧气瓶中的氧气可供航天员使用几十分钟,且具有防寒隔离功效,为此,航天服具有气密性,头部与手腕的转动均不会漏气,这样一来就使航天服的穿脱非常费劲。日本航天员毛利卫说,穿航天服是很辛苦的,头部很难套入,又很重,航天服重20~30千克,再套上降落伞,重量会达到40多千克,穿好航天服得练20次,一个人很难自己穿上,升空时可由别人帮助穿上,而返回时只好由航天员之间互相帮助穿戴,可是在失重状态下这可不是一件容易的事。
