In this study, questionnaires and interviews were used to examine the state of native language thinking in the process of English writing for college students of different second language levels. The study found that: (1) Regardless of the level of second language proficiency, in the process of second language writing, learners have a higher degree of reliance on native language thinking; (2) Native language thinking has a great difference in terms of word writing and sentence construction in second language writing. Second language learners are higher than high-level L2 learners; there is not much difference in interpreting topics, content conception, topic expansion, and layout; (3) Native language writing ability has a certain positive effect on L2 writing.
