The brown planthopper,N.lugens,is notable to develop well at 35℃.Previous investi-gation showed that 35℃-treated N.lugensharbored fewer symbionts than untreatedones, and it was suggested that symbiontplayed an important role in nutritionalmetabolism.Nevertheless,it is still unknownif 35℃ treatment would influence the nutri-tional requirements. In this study, eggs of 2-3d old were treated with 35℃ for 3 d.Afterhatching, each 175-200 1st instar nymphaewere reared at 27℃ on the basic holidic diet D-97(CK) and 22 artificial diets, each lacking inan amino acid of D-97.
