中国电影博物馆的诞生与中国电影的发展有着密不可分的关联。早在上世纪50年代,在新中国电影事业发展如日中天的大背景下,周恩来总理就曾对建立中国电影博物馆一事做出过批示,但由于当时建设条件还不成熟,这个设想没有实现。改革开放以来,随着我国各项文化事业、特别是电影业的蓬勃发展,在电影人的强烈呼吁下,电影博物馆的建设又被提上了日程,并牵动着全国电影工作者的心。2005年12月28日,在中国电影诞生100周年之际,中国电影博物馆建设落成。建成后的中国电影博物馆拥有固定展厅20个,展线长度2970米,介绍电影1500余部,涉及图片4300余张、电影工作者450多位。特别是IMAX巨幕影厅,更是被广大观众交口称赞,一度成为吸引观众参观的首要因素。十年来,在北京市委市政府的领导下,在国家新闻出版广电总局的大力支持和指导下,中国电影博物馆紧紧围绕“国家级、专业化、公益性、第一流”的建馆方针和目标,始终将“扩大电影影响”和“推动影响电影”作为我们前行的动力和要求,各项工作均取得了良好的社会效益和显著成果。
