竞技体操运动员多年训练过程是一个由选材、管理、训练、竞赛等若干部分组成的系统工程,主要包括选材、初级训练、中级训练、高级训练、延长运动寿命五个阶段。各阶段都有自己的主要任务和实施要点,由于体操运动的发展和规则的变化,多年训练框架不是一成不变的,必须不断与时俱进,不断总结,不断发展,同时因运动员的个体差异而存在不同的内涵,故在制定和执行训练计划时应根据具体情况加以不断调整和变化。
