The process of growing nodular carbon nanofibers by CVD with foamed Ni as catalyst was discussed. The effects of process parameters on the yield and morphology of the samples were also discussed. The growth mechanism of the samples was also discussed. It is considered that the different crystal planes of the catalysts are conducive to the adsorption and dissociation of hydrocarbon gases or the deposition of carbon, respectively. Therefore, the original morphology of the catalyst particles affects the growth of carbon fibers with different open faces.
