Objective To investigate the aggression behavior and anxiety of middle school students and to explore the relationship between the two. Methods A total of 2 791 middle school students were investigated using Buss prepared aggression questionnaire (AQ) and Leary ’s interaction anxiousness scale (IAS). Results There were significant differences in body attack, indirect attack, anger and hostility scores among different grades of middle school students (P <0.05). There was significant difference in body attack, verbal aggression, anger and hostility scores among different gender middle school students (P <0.05) . There was a significant positive correlation between communication anxiety and aggressive behavior among middle school students (P <0.01). Both communication anxiety and gender are the main factors affecting body attacks, verbal attacks, anger and hostility, while the main influencing factor of indirect attacks is communication anxiety. Conclusion Communicative anxiety is the main risk factor affecting the attack behavior of middle school students. Timely intervention can effectively prevent and reduce the occurrence of secondary school students’ aggression.
