In the spring of 1918, the First World War is coming to an end. A small 30-member funeral procession headed for Pied-Raphius Cemetery on the slopes of Montmartre while avoiding scattered shells. After reading the simple mourning words, the coffin lowered the tomb. A passer-by said after reading the inscription on the wreath of the deceased: “The dead seem to be a musician.” The bleak life finally came to an end by a painful, unfortunate, lonely, tormented and dim life, but his Life is flashing the highest musical talent glorious. Claude Debussy, the country’s greatest musician, brought the motherland and world music to the twentieth century.
