‘杜鹃红’山茶种子较少,育苗可采用扦插、圈枝和嫁接法。但扦插苗、圈枝苗生长较慢,要3—4年才能成型,因此主要采用油茶(白花油茶)作砧木嫁接育苗。油茶适应性强、生长快、取材容易、与‘杜鹃红’山茶亲和力强,若利用油茶大树桩作砧进行高砧嫁接,成型更快,商品价值更高。选择砧木选择生长旺盛、无病虫害、树桩造型优美的油茶作砧木。有条件的地方,可在油茶原生长地选砧嫁接,待嫁接成活抽2托梢老熟后再挖回上盘进行培育,这样可缩短树冠成型时间。若没条件在原生长地嫁接,可在
