Objective To investigate the influence of noise in paper making process on the health of paper-making workers. Methods A large-scale papermaking enterprise in Zhenjiang was selected to monitor the noise intensity of its workplaces. At the same time, 1 717 workers with noise exposure of the enterprise were selected as the observation group and 410 administrators of other units as the control group, and their audiometry , Blood pressure, ECG and other occupational health checks. Statistical analysis was made on the abnormal rate of physical examination results of workers exposed to noise at different working ages. Results The frequency of hearing loss, frequency hearing loss, prevalence of hypertension and ECG abnormalities in contact noise workers were 22.6%, 12.3%, 10.4% and 22.1%, respectively, which were all higher than those in the control group (8.5% and 4.6% respectively) %, 5.4% and 16.3%, respectively (all χ2 values were 41.1, 5.6, 9.7 and 6.7, all P <0.05). Conclusion The paper mill noise pollution is widespread. Long-term exposure to noise on the operator’s auditory system and cardiovascular system greater impact. Therefore, the paper industry should take effective measures to prevent noise hazards in order to protect the health of workers.
