Davis and Lindsay used disc electrophoresis to distinguish the protein maps of some members of the gastropod, such as snails, and to make preliminary attempts to establish an index for the biochemical classification of shellfish. According to the “fingerprint” classification principle created by Lillevik et al., Davis scanned the protein profiles of various snails electrophoretically separated into linear “fingerprints”, indicating that it is helpful for the classification of snails. The “fingerprints” of Oncomelania hupensis chini and O. hupensis formosona are different. Wright and Ross use electrophoresis to separate Australorbis blood and egg proteins and discuss their classification.
