On August 7, the Russian government announced a ban on the importation of agricultural products and foodstuffs from the United States, the European Union, Australia, Canada and Norway. The list released by Russian Prime Minister Medvedev shows that food banned from imports includes beef, fish, pork, poultry, vegetables, fruits and dairy products. Russia published a revised list of live fish on August 20 as a list of prohibited foods, and the list also lists foods that are not banned. These import restrictions are to respond to the above-mentioned countries because of Russia’s alleged intervention in the political situation in eastern Ukraine imposed sanctions on Russia. The Russian government once said that Russia is willing to re-examine sanctions if its “western partners” are open to dialogue on this issue. Prohibiting Western countries from exporting agricultural products and foodstuffs to Russia will have a negative impact on the economies of the affected countries. In particular, the total value of food exports from EU countries and the United States to Russia in 2013 reached 17.1 billion U.S. dollars
